Serving our community since 1988
The Indianapolis Disc Golf Club is an Indiana domestic nonprofit organization that has proudly served the community of central Indiana for over 30 years. The IDGC serves its community by:
- funding the installation of public disc golf courses.
- maintaining the courses in conjunction with Indy Parks.
- organizing official competitions like leagues and tournaments.
- giving to local charities. Since the start of record keeping in 2003, the IDGC has donated over $35,000 to local food banks like Gleaners and St. Vincent de Paul.
Pillars of service
Courses
The IDGC has designed and helped fund the installation of four disc golf courses in Indy Parks by purchasing equipment like disc golf basket targets, target mounts, concrete tee pads, tee signs, and benches. The courses are public recreational facilities that are free to use, open to all, and fun for all ages.
Conservation
The IDGC works hard to keep local courses in good condition for fun, safe play by organizing volunteer work days to clean up: trash, weeds, invasive species, fallen trees, and dangerous unattached limbs. This work promotes park beautification, and the benefits are enjoyed by all park users.
Competition
The IDGC administers a variety of leagues and tournaments that run year round and provide opportunity for amateur and professional players alike to enjoy a more official, competitive form of disc golf. These events constitute thousands of hours spent in Indy Parks each year. Established tournaments like the Checkered Flag Open bring players from all over the country to Indianapolis to compete.
Charity
The IDGC holds a series of charitable fundraising events each year and also solicits donations from its members. The Club’s first Ice Bowl charity event began in 1989 and has run continuously for over 30 years. In 1994, fundraising directly for local food banks became a core part of the Club’s mission. Since record keeping began in 2003, the IDGC has donated $38,634 to local food banks.
